Rosa (F) Bassino is a delightful Floribunda rose, celebrated for its vibrant red, single blooms and excellent garden performance throughout the UK season.
The ‘Bassino’ rose, a stunning Floribunda variety, brings a splash of vivid colour to any UK garden. This robust and free-flowering plant is admired for its clusters of single, bright red flowers. Furthermore, it offers a long flowering season, providing continuous interest from early summer into autumn. Gardeners appreciate its healthy growth and adaptability, making it an excellent choice for various garden settings. This particular cultivar offers great disease resistance, ensuring a rewarding display.
This wonderful Floribunda rose, Rosa (F) Bassino, was bred by the renowned German rose growers Kordes, introduced around 2011. The name ‘Bassino’ suggests its compact nature, making it well-suited for smaller spaces or containers. This cultivar represents modern rose breeding, offering both beauty and resilience, which is particularly beneficial for UK gardens facing varied weather.
Rosa (F) Bassino produces an abundance of striking, single red flowers. Each bloom features five petals, revealing a prominent cluster of bright yellow stamens at its heart. These vibrant flowers emerge in clusters, creating a brilliant display against the backdrop of its dark green, healthy foliage. The contrast between the rich red petals and the golden stamens is particularly appealing. This rose continuously flowers, starting in June and continuing right through to the first frosts of autumn.
Given its compact and bushy form, Rosa (F) Bassino performs beautifully in various garden roles. Plant it in mixed borders for a continuous splash of colour, use it to edge paths, or group several together for a mass planting effect. It thrives equally well in larger pots and containers on patios or balconies. Importantly, the open structure of its single flowers makes the pollen and nectar readily accessible to pollinators. Therefore, it is a fantastic choice for attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects to your garden, significantly boosting local biodiversity.
Pruning is key for maintaining the health and vigour of Rosa (F) Bassino. Conduct a hard prune in late winter or early spring, typically between February and March in the UK. This involves removing dead, diseased, or crossing stems, as well as shortening the remaining strong stems by about one-third. Throughout the flowering season, regular deadheading of spent blooms will encourage the plant to produce more flowers, extending its vibrant display even further into the autumn months.
Very hardy. Tolerates temperatures typical of a continental winter.
This plant is deciduous so it will lose all of its leaves in the autumn and get fresh new foliage each spring.
